From Wednesday, 1 October, food and drinks in our canteens can only be paid for cashlessly. Cash will no longer be accepted.
Why this step is necessary:
- Cost-effectiveness: Handling cash is costly – it must be counted according to the dual control principle, stored securely, insured and transported to the bank. This incurs high costs.
- Current usage: Already today, around 90% of students pay cashless. Cash payments are rarely used.
- Contemporary payment: Cashless payment methods are safer, faster, more convenient and more hygienic than cash. Coins and banknotes pass through many hands. Especially in our hygienically sensitive environment, cashless payment has clear advantages.
The following payment options are available:
- Debit and credit cards
- Apple Pay and Google Pay
We know that there will be isolated criticism of the abolition of cash. However, it is our responsibility to handle students’ funds responsibly. The cost of operating cash registers is no longer proportionate to the actual benefit.
Enjoy your meal quickly, securely and cashlessly – in your canteen!
